CALIFORNIA BASS FISHING
CALIFORNIA BASS FISHING FROM NORTH TO SOUTH

California may be famous for the Pacific Ocean, but there are hundreds of fresh water lakes that draw anglers and California bass fishing is especially popular with a banner year predicted for 2008. Lakes throughout the state are stocked with largemouth, smallmouth, spotted and striped bass.
Northern California features Clear Lake, the bass capital of the West and California's largest freshwater lake at 43,764 surface acres and depths up to 60 feet. The bass fishing is so good that professional bass fishing organizations such as U.S. Bass, Cal Bass, Western Bass, have designated Clear Lake as the number one bass lake in the nation. Other lakes for California bass fishing in the northern part of the state include Lake Almanor, Lake Berryesa, Lake Shasta, Trinity Lake and Folsom Lake.
In Central California, California bass fishing is great at Pine Flat Lake, 35 miles east of Fresno, which has been called the "world capital" of trophy spotted bass. Spotted bass have dominated the lake for over a decade, with the largemouth population boosted, too. California bass fishing in the central part of the state is also bountiful at Lake Camanche, Lake Don Pedro, Lake McClure and New Melones Lake.

Southern California is a haven for bass fishing, with Lake Castaic and Lake Casitas two of the most famous trophy lakes in the world, with records for eight of the 15 largest bass ever caught. Also noteworthy is Diamond Valley Lake in Riverside County, one of the spring's top producing lakes, and the largest stillwater in Southern California at 4,500 acres and 4.5 miles long. Big Bear Lake, in the San Bernardino range, has a fine bass population. The long stretch of the Colorado River that forms the California/Arizona border also caters to the California bass angler.
The top baits for largemouth bass include spinnerbaits, crankbaits and plastic worms, with smaller versions for smallmouth bass. An ideal lure for California bass fishing is the KickTail Lure from NGC Sports (http://www.ngcsports.com), an innovative lure that mimics the motion of real fish so live fish lunge after it. The KickTail is based on flutter technology that allows it to swim at the water surface with five tail segments that click together as you pull it through the water, calling fish from a distance. The lure is tournament tested with a triple catch rate that earned a Seal of Approval from North American Fisherman magazine. The KickTail lure comes in a variety of colors and is shaped like the threadfin shad, the most prevalent bait fish. Largemouth bass gobble up more threadfin shad than any other bait fish, which makes the KickTail lure idea for California bass fishing. NGC Sports has won awards for its lures and has sold millions of them, but not in stores.
